In the past, straight or angled handpieces were used for osteotomy – traditional crown dissection. Today, instead of using the frictional force caused by the rotation of the drill, the advent of the piezotome perform this process by using ultrasonic vibration energy at high frequency and water.

2. Indication

  • Decayed teeth, no indication for retaining
  • Teeth with periodontal disease
  • Teeth with apical infection: check through X-ray, in case of less infection in the apex, it is possible to perform apical surgery.

  • Orthodontics: In some cases, teeth need to be extracted to create the space for orthodontic treatment.
  • Trauma: cases of broken teeth, broken roots located too deep below the gums without retaining indications
