1. Indication

  • Decayed teeth, no indication for retaining
  • Teeth with periodontal disease
  • Teeth with apical infection: check through X-ray, in case of less infection in the apex, it is possible to perform apical surgery.
  • Teeth that are misaligned
  • Orthodontics: In some cases, teeth need to be extracted to create the space for orthodontic treatment.
  • Trauma: cases of broken teeth, broken roots located too deep below the gums without retaining indications.

2. What cases should not have teeth extracted?

Teeth should not be extracted in the following cases:

In place:

  • Acute gingivitis or stomatitis
  • Acute periodontitis
  • Acute apex infection

Total-body:

  • Blood disorders
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • Allergy
  • Neurological and mental diseases: It is necessary to use sedatives for a few days before extraction
  • Pregnant women: There is no indication for tooth extraction in the first three months and middle period of pregnancy. It requires the obstetrician’s advices before proceeding.

3. Contraindication

The following cases are absolutely contraindicated for tooth extraction:

  • Leukemia patient
  • The patient who underwent X-ray treatment of the maxillofacial region

4. Is tooth extraction painful?

Currently, doctors will perform painless tooth extraction by injecting anesthetic into the patient. A skilled dentist will inject anesthetic slowly: they apply topical or spray anesthetic on the area of ​​​​the tooth to be extracted, then use a needle to inject the anesthetic so that the patient will not feel pain.

5. How to care and clean after tooth extraction

  • Reduce pain and swelling by applying an ice pack to the cheek area where the tooth is extracted.
  • Keep oral hygiene, gently bite a cotton swab, and keep it about 30-45 minutes after extraction.
  • Brush teeth gently avoiding the extracted teeth area.
  • Use a straw when drinking water, avoid eating too hot or too cold food
  • Avoid eating hard food, use soft small food with the rich in vitamins and minerals
  • Gargle with salt water to help remove bacteria and clean the oral cavity
  • Do not stick your tongue or use sharp objects to poke the extraction site
  • Absolutely do not smoke, do not drink alcohol for at least 3 days after tooth extraction.
