A sinus lift in implantation is a procedure to lift the maxillary sinus up to make more room for placing dental implants
There are 2 techniques:
Closed sinus lift:

Step 1: Drill a small hole about 2mm on the alveolar bone, drilling vertically close to the sinus wall. Use an instrument to lift the sinus membrane

Step 2: Pump bone through a specialized pump tube. The amount of bone is pumped just enough for the maxillary sinus to be lifted to the required position

Step 3: Put the Implant head and close the flap
Open sinus lift:

Step 1: Elevate the flap at the position where the tooth needs to be lifted

Step 2: Dissect the periosteum and raise the maxillary sinus by specialized tools

Step 3: Add new bone to fill the gap in the raised sinus position
